Guardians of the Ice is a nonprofit organization focused on the rapidly-shrinking Columbia Icefield as a leading indicator of the worldwide climate crisis. Their purpose is to engage the public to build support for a low-carbon future. They link the emotional power of art through photography, film and writing with the cognitive clarity of science, to effectively communicate the urgency of what is being uncovered at the ice fields.
In 2025, Guardians of the Ice played a central role in celebrating the United Nations International Year of Glaciers' Preservation with the launch of the MELTDOWN: A Drop in Time photography exhibition at the Whyte museum in Banff. The exhibit immerses viewers deep into Canadian glacial landscapes through a series of fine-art environmental photographs taken by the founder of Guardians of the Ice Jim Elzinga and filmmaker Roger Vernon.
Patagonia Calgary/Banff/Victoria are proud to be presenting sponsors of this transformative exhibition which can now be visited in the Glacier Gallery at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre! We have had the opportunity to collaborate with them on local events such as our annual Nature Knowledge Trivia Night and our film night surrounding fishing in Canada!

Ancient Forest Alliance (AFA) is a BC-based charity leading the push to protect endangered ancient forests while ensuring a sustainable, value-added, second-growth forestry industry in BC. AFA’s photos, videos, news stories and political advocacy work have been instrumental in the fight to save at-risk old-growth forests in the province.
In 2025, the Ancient Forest Alliance marked its 15th anniversary with a focus on exposing ongoing old-growth logging and advocating for systemic policy shifts in British Columbia. They utilized visual evidence with photography by co-founder TJ Watt of Haida Gwaii and the Nahmint Valley to pressure the provincial government to fulfill its "30 by 30" conservation promises among other initiatives fighting against policy backsliding and advocating for policy shifts.
We have teamed up with Ancient Forest Alliance to offer merchandise available for purchase in Patagonia Victoria with 100% of proceeds going to protecting BC’s endangered old-growth forests.
